GreenDIGIT 4th Newsletter Published: Diving into the Environmental Impact Metric Publication System (EIMPS)

We are thrilled to announce the publication of the 4th Edition of the GreenDIGIT Newsletter, dedicated entirely to one of our core operational milestones: the Environmental Impact Metric Publication System (EIMPS). Developed under Task 6.1 it resolves a long-standing challenge—unifying sustainability metrics across heavily fragmented digital environments.

Through an authorized RESTful Publication API, distributed resource providers can now automatically submit performance data conforming to the standardized GreenDIGIT Execution Unit Record (EUR) structure. This edition provides a dive into the five-stage EIMPS processing pipeline and details our three distinctly specialized workflows designed to capture non-intrusive energy telemetry without disrupting provider operations:

  • High-Throughput Compute (Grid)

  • Cloud Infrastructures

  • Dverse Networking Topologies (IoT, 5G, wired)

Furthermore, we highlight the current status of EIMPS in production, which already contains successful ingestion statistics and integration across 10 distinct Research Infrastructures (including EGI, SLICES, SoBigData, and multiple ESFRI RIs). The data collected plays a crucial role in feeding predictive machine learning models for forecasting (T6.2), informing intelligent green brokering choices (T6.3), and enabling energy-aware scheduling inside WP7 orchestration platforms.
