GreenDIGIT booth at EBRAINS summit 2025

Join GreenDIGIT project at the upcoming EBRAINS Summit 2025 in Brussels (December 9–11 / 2025).  We’ll be showcasing how our innovative framework, lifecycle model, and user tools are aiming to reduce the environmental footprint of cutting-edge scientific computing. Don’t miss this opportunity to see and discuss with us about our Key Exploitable Results (KERs) in action!

Event Date: Tuesday 9 – Thursday 11 Dec 2025, Rue Bara 175, 1070 Brussels, Belgium

GreenDIGIT long-talk at NFDI punch lunch seminar

This talk, contains the efforts of GreenDIGIT that include developing reference architectures, design principles, and innovative tools to monitor and reduce the energy use in digital RIs, while promoting environmentally conscious applications towards their research users. Through education, policy recommendations, and technical support, GreenDIGIT aims to foster a culture of environmental sustainability among researchers and providers, ultimately aiding climate change mitigation. This talk will provide an overview about the results of GreenDIGIT, and about the opportunities the project offers for data centers and software providers to join its mission.

Event Date: Tuesday 16 Oct 2025, ZOOM meeting Virtual

Lowering the environmental impact of digital services - EGI Conference 2025

ICT sectors contribute 1.8%–2.8% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Green computing initiatives aim to reduce this impact. This session brings together contributions relating to activities, experiences and projects relating to the lowering of the environmental impact of scientific computing. The session includes talks from the EGI community, and from the GreenDIGIT HE project that is a joint effort of EGI, SLICES, SoBigData and EBRAINS digital Research Infrastructures.

Event Date: Tuesday 3 Jun 2025, Palacio de la Magdalena (Room: Salon de Baile), Santander, Spain

Decreasing the environmental impact of Research Infrastructures

Climate change and environmental degradation are affecting all of our society activities, including living environment, industry and research. The increased focus should be placed on public policies and investments fostering sustainable growth and building on technological developments especially in the area of green ICT and energy efficiency. Research infrastructures play a key role in this context, as drivers through scientific discoveries and scientific advances that address societal challenges, such as climate change, and as first adopters of the green transition through innovative technologies, digitalisation and other solutions that can facilitate operational and environmental sustainability.

Event Date: Monday 2 December 2024, W Hotel Side Room, Brisbane, Australia

"Green Computing: towards greener digital services" session at the EGI'24 Conference

ICT sectors contribute 1.8%–2.8% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Green computing initiatives aim to reduce this impact.

EGI in partnership with the SLICES, SoBigData and EBRAINS digital research infrastructures are at the forefront of this movement through the GreenDIGIT EC Project. This session explores how GreenDIGIT is working to:

Minimise the environmental impact of digital infrastructures
Reduce greenhouse gas emissions from research computing

Event Date: Tuesday 1 Oct 2024, Hilton Garden Inn, Lecce, Italy

"Research Infrastructures for Data Security and Privacy" session at the Privacy Symposium Conference 2024

While research on data protection was traditionally, relatively, and jurisdictionally agnostic, the worldwide development of national and regional data regulations is paving the way to a new field of research, which requires international cooperation. The need for solid infrastructure to support research efforts is a direct result of the volume and complexity of data which continues to grow exponentially. How can these infrastructures be built and leveraged to protect and comprehend unimaginable amounts of data? This session offers insights into the role of research infrastructures in addressing the challenges of data security and privacy. It will open a cross-Atlantic conversation and share the perspective from different research infrastructures, such as EGI, SLICES and SoBigData.

Event Date: 10 June 2024, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice – Aula Mario Baratto
