π GreenDIGIT: WP4-WP5-WP6 Design Workshop Highlights! ππ‘
We’re thrilled to share the progress made during the recent Design Workshop 23-24 Jan. in Amsterdam, focused on Work Packages 4, 5, and 6 of the GreenDIGIT project!
This hybrid collaborative session brought together all the partners from across Europe to discuss, organize and tackle critical aspects of sustainable digital research infrastructures, including:
πΏ WP4: Architecture and Requirements Specification for Sustainable RI.
π WP5: Tools for energy efficient, reproducible Open Science.
π§ WP6: Technology enablers for energy efficiency in Research Infrastructure.
Together, we explored innovative solutions to optimize energy usage, reduce the carbon footprint, and enhance the efficiency of digital research infrastructures. GreenDIGIT initiative aims to advance in the field of Research Infrastructures (RIs), by giving emphasis on developing energy-efficient computing frameworks and reproducible Open Science tools. In the context of this design workshop, several WPs were thouroughly discussed in order to shape the future of energy efficient and sustainable RIs. As a starting point, several aspects of WP4 (“Architecture and Requirements Specification for Sustainable RI”) were analyzed, included but not limited to the definition / refinition of the energy metrics considered in the under-development architecture. This included both the formulation for some metrics that will be considered (energy consumption, carbon footprint etc.), as well as the technical details for storing, managing and analyzing them in modern systems. At this point, experiences also reported from several consortium members on the collection of such kind of metrics, that significantly elaborated on GreenDIGIT’s current architectural approach. Furthermore, WP5 (“Tools for energy efficient, reproducible Open Science”) discussions focused on federated data management, ensuring reproducibility while preventing unnecessary re-execution of experiments. Details like the information metadata schemas for experimental executions, was discussed and analyzed in the context of WP5 progress. Finally related to WP6 (“Technology enablers for energy efficiency in Research Infrastructure”), several initial thoughts, considerations and details, were discussed based on the current architectural approach of GreenDIGIT.
π A huge thank you to all participants for their insights, collaboration, and dedication to creating a greener digital future. Stay tuned for updates as we continue to make strides in sustainability and innovation!
